Job Description
Please note the information as set forth below is based on the job description for entry level systems analysts. The projects in which an intern will participate will vary, depending on education level and assignment, but will model the duties below to the extent possible:
Network-Telecommunications
1. Participate in the “Network Risk Mitigation” work on the Backbone/Manufacturing networks at Indiana Harbor, which will help to reduce costly manufacturing outages. This work includes design, configuration, and installation of network infrastructure equipment. (Cisco access points/ Ethernet switches). This will also include participation in termination/testing of Fiber-optic & Category 5E/6 Cabling.
2. Participate in VOIP (Voice Over IP) phone replacement project at Indiana Harbor which will help to eliminate the existing conventional phone lines and data circuits resulting in cost savings. This project will also provide new technology with many enhancements to the phone service. The work includes design, configuration, and installation of the VOIP phones and system.
Server-Desktop IH
1. Participate in Server / Storage risk reduction projects to upgrade and / or replace legacy hardware and operating systems.
2. Participate in the Virtualization effort and evaluate the potential use for Microsoft's HyperV technology in contrast to VmWare.
3. Work on standardization of the backup and retention technologies exploring de-duplication technologies.
Server-Desktop BH
1. Provide onsite and remote support, training, and administration for the Burns Harbor facility in a Windows computing environment. Day to day activities include imaging and deploying workstations and laptops, troubleshooting end user problems, and implementing assigned projects. Interns are also responsible for management of assets including inventory and procurement. The Systems Analyst Intern must be able to effectively communicate and collaborate with all team members in the shared services organization as well as end users at all levels of the organization. Systems Analyst interns must ensure understanding of approved policies and maintain compliance (SOX/Processes). Systems Analyst Interns will perform all other duties as assigned within defined guidelines.
2. Continue the effort to roll out Windows 7 across the environment.
Security-Directory Services-Email IH
1. Participate in File Server Audit, Data Classification and Reorganization of folder structure to simplify sox processes at all plants.
2. Participate in Email Transformation project to support Email users as they are migrated to new systems.
3. Participate in documentation of existing Infrastructure Systems.
4. Support migrations from legacy Directories to the Americas Domain.
Candidates should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Information Systems or Computer Science, have completed at least their sophomore year of study by the Summer of 2012; and have a GPA of at least 3.20
