Process Automation Engineering Intern

Job Description

Please note, the information as set forth below is based on the job description for entry level Process Automation Engineer.  The projects in which an intern will participate will vary, depending on education level and plant needs, but will model the duties below to the extent possible:

Software Development and System Support

  • Software development in a variety of programming languages and on a variety of hardware platforms.
  • Maintenance of computer hardware and software.
    • Maintenance and problem solving of all aspects of the automation system
    • Modifications to the automation system to adapt to new products and processes
    • Addressing issues that may impact production or system reliability
  • Process modeling for mill processes of a chemical, metallurgical and mechanical nature
  • Administration of a variety of Operating Systems and relational databases on workstations and servers. 
  • Regular written and oral reports on project and task status.

Sub-System Support

  • Working with complex measurement systems such as
    • Vision systems for product quality
    • Thermal imaging temperature measurements
    • RFID and barcode tag reading for product identification
    • X-ray, nuclear gauges, and other gauging systems
  • Working with networking technologies, high-speed data transmission and specialty interfaces

Production Support

  • Close coordination with a production department
    • Respond to routine and emergency requests
    • Manage local area project, task, and priority lists
    • Make recommendations for system and process improvements
  • Working with vendors on products and performance issues
  • Coordinating with Research and Development and other staff departments

Candidates should be enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Software Engineering, have completed at least their sophomore year of study by the Summer of 2012, and have a GPA of at least 3.2.

In addition, ArcelorMittal generally does not sponsor candidates for temporary visas or permanent residency at this level.
